Ogilvy Lessons are Forever

Yeah, this is the dreaded welcome page.

So what is this all about? This is a micro blog devoted to online marketing. No, not the “get rich” fav, but online marketing from the point of view of those who have real products, real companies and real customers.

Now this may sound harsh, but there’s so much junk cluttering the net and claiming PLR eBooks are the new diamonds. They are not. World’s economy may not be at its highest now, but for sure is not based on eBooks.

True, people buy things they desire, andĀ also -sometimes- things they actually need. Nevertheless, creating and marketing real products which make the customer happy and lead to repeated sales is something that will never be outsold by vanity, paper thin, 1 page sales sites.

I’ll try to share some of my experiences from close to 13 years (yep, have been selling online since 1997) in the online advertising industry for small sized business, mainly focused on services.

I have read Ogilvy, Hopkins, Wheeler… all of them. I understood them, applied their lessons, yet I have never been able to dissociate from my inner self enough to do the ruthless job of an advertiser: to sell people what they want, instead of what they need.

I think I have found a nice balance. I can plan an advertising campaign that works, even if I do feel dirty doing so, and at the same time know that what I have done is in the best interest of the readers and the buyers.

This helps, since I have to shave myself every morning.
